Tryptophan

In addition to being necessary for the synthesis of many proteins important for the plant, tryptophan is the precursor of a large number of secondary metabolites, especially: phytohormones involved in root growth, such as auxins; and alkaloids used by the defensive system of plants against insects and bacteria (tryptamine, amines derived from anthranilic acid, strictosidine, camptothecin, etc.).
